What is the difference between a Church and a Chapel?
The Scriptural term Church refers to a group of believers who gather together to worship not a building and to distinguish between the two our building is called a Chapel.
What does the term Particular mean?
We believe that the salvation of the Lord Jesus was for a “particular” or distinct people, and not general for all mankind.
What does the term Strict mean?
Strict is a contraction of the word restricted. This means that it is our church order to restrict the partaking of the Lord’s Supper (or Communion) to those who have been baptised by immersion and received by us as Church Members (or by other churches of the same faith and order).
We believe that this is the most reliable translation available in the English Language, the basis of the translation was to express without addition or diminution the exact meaning of the original Scriptures. We believe that the underlying texts in Hebrew and Greek have been preserved by Almighty God for the church.
Why do we use the Authorised (King James) Version of the Holy Bible?
William Gadsby was born in Attleborough and became a prominent preacher amongst the Strict & Particular Baptists. He was the Pastor of the Particular Baptist Chapel in Manchester for 38 years during which time he wrote many hymns. He first published his Selection of Hymns in 1814 which although expanded over the years is still in regular use in Great Britain, the USA, Canada and Australia. His best known hymn is probably “Immortal honours rest on Jesus’ head”. In 1835 he founded the “Gospel Standard” magazine which is believed to be oldest monthly religious magazine that is still being published today.
